The French presence in Ontario takes its origin from the very establishment of the Ste-Marie-au-Pays-des-Hurons in 1639. Nowadays, 50 percent of Canada's Francophones living outside Quebec reside in Ontario. The Ontario French community is more and more diversified, welcoming for many years Francophones from all parts of the world. Franco-Ontarians' music and songs, theatre and literature as well as visual arts, are recognized for their quality throughout Canada as well as abroad. Agricultural and cultural tourism represent other areas where Francophones of this province have carved out their place of choice.
