2009 Edition
For this concept, we wanted to illustrate the close ties between Francophone communities who represent the different component aspects of Francophonie. In fact, we have carefully designed the shapes of figures so that they compelemtn one another, each completing and interlinking with the other. We wanted their mouvements to reflect the idea of close cooperation or reciprocal exchange and rapprochement between Francophones, Francophiles and Anglophones from various communitites.
We have explored the idea of a farandole (spirited Provençal circle dance)- or rather the idea of an invitation to join in this great celebration. Moreover, in the illustration a figure appears to turn towards us inviting us to participate in the Rendez-vous. This "invitation" to step into the image is supported by the fluid ribbons floating all around the characters and flowing into the crowd, at the center of the poster. Interspersed here and there are figures representing the different aspects of Francophonie - music, visual arts, cinema, sports, etc...The ambiance is cheerful and vibrant to project a sense of the excitement surrounding the upcoming festivities.
