Big congrats to these winners and a tip of the hat to the contest sponsors\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080\"><b>Delectable Traditions<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From the east coast to the west coast, from south to north, food is one of the ways Canadians share culture and bring our family traditions to life. The Delectable Traditions contest offered all who entered the opportunity to showcase a favourite recipe and a personal story that inspired it. There were four contest winners:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Young chefs (age 17 and under): Aline Borowiec of Ottawa, Ontario, won a $2,000 cash prize. Her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journal2022.rvf.ca\/wp-content\/documents\/journal%202022\/recettes\/jeune-cuistot\/Recipe-AlineBoroweic-YoungChefs.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cream pie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was a family recipe and a favourite dish of her great-grandmother H\u00e9l\u00e8ne as well as her grandmother Jeanne.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Culinary artists (age 18 and older): Jacques Watso of Odanak, Quebec, won an Air Canada business class trip for two in Canada. His <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journal2022.rvf.ca\/wp-content\/documents\/journal%202022\/recettes\/cordon-bleu\/Recipe-JacquesWatso-CulinaryArtists.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sagamit\u00e9 Watso<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a traditional soup with nine varieties of beans, leached corn, vegetables, secret spices, red deer meat, and a soup bone from the culinary heritage of the Abenakis of Odanak. Jacques suggests serving this soup with bannock and a good cup of black tea.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Family table (family): Jolene Neufeldt of Elie, Manitoba, won $3,000 cash and a Parks Canada Discovery Pass. Her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journal2022.rvf.ca\/wp-content\/documents\/journal%202022\/recettes\/familiale\/Recipe-JoleneNeufeldt-FamilyTable.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cinnamon Babka<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> puts her in mind of her Baba, who recently passed away.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chantal Lafreni\u00e8re of Mont-Laurier, Qu\u00e9bec, was awarded the $3,000 cash prize for the public vote.\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080\"><b>Write it Right!<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Write it Right was a spelling challenge presented by the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.noslangues-ourlanguages.gc.ca\/en\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Language Portal of Canada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (an initiative of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca\/bt-tb\/index-eng.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Translation Bureau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at Public Services and Procurement Canada) and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadapost-postescanada.ca\/cpc\/en\/home.page\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canada Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. There were two contest winners, one in the elementary school category, and one in the general public category. The school prize of $1.000 was taken by Evangeline School, in Abram-Village, Prince-Edward-Island, and the general public prize of $1,000 was won by Brenda Hanson, of Edmonton, Alberta.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080\"><b>Connected Through Traditions<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lillian Brown of Hants County, Nova Scotia, won the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journal2022.rvf.ca\/en\/connected-through-traditions-contest\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Connected Through Traditions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> contest, which allowed entrants to test their language skills while learning about traditions.
