The Frye Fest began in 1999<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at a public conference featuring Acadian novelist, playwright, and scholar<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/nblce.lib.unb.ca\/resources\/authors\/antonine-maillet\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Antonine Maillet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Ralston_Saul\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Ottawa-born <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">political philosopher and public intellectual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnralstonsaul.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John Ralston Saul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year\u2019s festival ran from April 21rd to May 1st and included more than forty artists and authors, including children\u2019s authors, graphic novelists, storytellers, poets, playwrights, and spoken-word artists. <strong>Look for Billy-Ray Belcourt, a writer and academic from the Driftpile Cree Nation; Montreal-based novelist Kim Th\u00fay; Rebecca Salazar, editor of Atlantic Canada\u2019s iconic literary journal, <\/strong><\/span><strong><i>The Fiddlehead; <\/i>Andr\u00e9e Levesque Sioui, a\u00a0 Wendat singer-songwriter from a Wendake community near Quebec City; and Jean-Paul Eid, a Quebec graphic novelist, among many others.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The festival\u2019s extensive youth program featured an exhibit of student artwork, a public reading event for youth, a music showcase for young musicians, a literary debate, writing competitions, and a variety of readings and presentations in local schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">See the full program <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frye.ca\/programmation?lang=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Catherine Fisher, blogger<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":10120,"parent":0,"template":"","categorie-de-nouvelle":[61],"class_list":["post-10118","nouvelles","type-nouvelles","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categorie-de-nouvelle-culture-en"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nouvelles\/10118","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nouvelles"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/nouvelles"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/10120"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10118"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"categorie-de-nouvelle","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categorie-de-nouvelle?post=10118"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
