This year\u2019s theme is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Journalism under digital siege.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A free press helps us make sense of what is happening around us. Journalists hold governments accountable, ask necessary questions, point out injustices, confirm facts, and keep us safe. The United Nations\u2019<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/universal-declaration-human-rights\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> confirms the importance of freedom of the press.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reporters Without Borders, a global organization that publishes the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.org\/en\/rsfs-2022-world-press-freedom-index-new-era-polarisation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">World Press Freedom Index<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, reports that this year social polarization, amplified by media polarisation, has increased, and it is fuelling divisions within countries and between countries.
