{"id":10659,"date":"2022-06-27T11:05:35","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T15:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/?post_type=nouvelles&#038;p=10659"},"modified":"2022-06-27T11:05:35","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T15:05:35","slug":"a-busy-weekend-in-nelson-b-c","status":"publish","type":"nouvelles","link":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/news\/a-busy-weekend-in-nelson-b-c\/","title":{"rendered":"A busy weekend in Nelson, B.C.!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Saint-Jean-Baptiste weekend is always a busy time in Canada<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">did you do anything interesting?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I went down to Lakeside Park for Nelson\u2019s annual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/afko.franco\/photos\/a.423551141060255\/5281400265275294\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Franco F\u00eate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. It was a hot day full of good music and fun activities hosted by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afko.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Association des francophones des Kootenays Ouest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (AFKO). There was some drumming, some dancing, and lots of eating and socialising. I heard people speaking in both English and French, sometimes switching back and forth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I learned about AFKO\u2019s new podcast, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/francouestpodcast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FRANC OUEST<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is hosted by Franco-Ontarian filmmaker Patrick Lac (in photo above, centre), who now lives in Nelson. Lac\u2019s podcast includes in-depth interviews and friendly discussions with local and regional people. As a next step, he plans to create podcasts with students in three regional schools: Revelstoke (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/glaciers.csf.bc.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00c9cole des Glaciers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), Nelson (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sentiersalpins.csf.bc.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00c9cole des Sentiers-alpins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), and Rossland (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/septsommets.csf.bc.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00c9cole des Sept-sommets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rose-Anne Lachance (on the left in the photo) coordinates AFKO\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afko.ca\/2022\/06\/11\/camp2022\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">summer camp series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Campers will enjoy silk-screening, cinema, sewing, mosaic-making, art, outdoor skills, and podcasting workshops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It was great to see people gathering in the park to enjoy each other and to celebrate the Francophonie.
