As part of their mission to share the history of Canada\u2019s peoples, places, and events that have shaped Canada\u2019s past, present, and future, Parks Canada produces a weekly post called <\/span>This Week in History<\/span><\/a>. I read it from time to time and have learned a lot from it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, did you know that <\/span>Jacques Plante\u2019s decision to wear a mask<\/span><\/a> during a regular National Hockey League (NHL) game (1959) sparked a change in goaltender safety practices? Or that <\/span>Agathe de Saint-P\u00e8re de Repentigny founded and managed<\/span><\/a> one of the earliest (1705) textile factories in Montr\u00e9al\u2014a \u201ccloth, drugget, cross twill and blanket factory\u201d?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you are aware that in 1912, the <\/span>government of Ontario adopted Regulation 17<\/span><\/a>, which prohibited French as a language of instruction and communication in all schools across the province, except for the first two years of primary school?<\/span><\/p>\n

Have a look at the site. You can read about <\/span>archeology at Saint-Louis Forts and Ch\u00e2teaux<\/span><\/a>, now a national historic site, about the <\/span>Battle of the Restigouche<\/span><\/a>, the last major naval battle of the Seven Years\u2019 War (1756\u20131763) between the British and the French, Acadians, and Mi’kmaq, and about <\/span>Joseph Montferrand<\/span><\/a>, an Ontario folk hero.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re sure to learn something new.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
