One can spend a LOT of time exploring the <\/span>Language Portal of Canada<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With 23,000 pages of content <\/span>(which doesn\u2019t include the mighty <\/span>TERMIUM Plus<\/span><\/i>\u00ae<\/span>,) <\/span><\/i>the Portal contains a vast collection of free resources to help Canadians communicate effectively in both official languages. Here are some of the Portal\u2019s resources:<\/span><\/p>\n

TERMIUM Plus<\/span><\/i>\u00ae<\/span><\/a> s one of the world\u2019s most extensive terminology and linguistic data banks, including millions of terms, abbreviations, definitions and usage examples in a wide range of specialised fields.<\/span><\/p>\n

Language Navigator<\/span><\/a> is a search engine that allows you to search by keyword or by theme to quickly find answers to your questions about language or writing in English and French.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Languages blog<\/span><\/a>, where Canadians can share their passion for language by writing, reading or commenting on posts about terminology, children\u2019s authors, bilingualism and just about any other language-related topic you can think of!<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing Tips Plus<\/span><\/i><\/a>, which is the Portal\u2019s primary English-language writing tool, contains hundreds of writing tips on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other difficulties of the English language.<\/span><\/p>\n

Word Tailoring<\/span><\/a> helps you find English equivalents for French words and expressions that are hard to translate.<\/span><\/p>\n

HyperGrammar 2<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span>Peck\u2019s English Pointers<\/span><\/i><\/a> offer articles on English grammar, punctuation, spelling and usage, as well as review exercises to test yourself on the concepts covered in the articles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Favourite Articles<\/span><\/i><\/a> is a collection of articles that take an in-depth look at difficulties related to the English language, translation and terminology.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Collection of Canadian Language Resources<\/span><\/a> \u00a0is a collection of links to writing resources, glossaries and dictionaries, language learning opportunities, organisations and events.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Portal\u2019s language <\/span>quizzes<\/span><\/a> allow you to have fun while putting your knowledge of English and French to the test.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, what\u2019s new at the Portal?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Caroline LeBouthillier, manager at the Language Portal of Canada, pointed me toward their recently-published <\/span>Guidelines on inclusive writing<\/span><\/a>, and their linguistic recommendations on the use of <\/span>Inuk and Inuit<\/span><\/a>. LeBouthillier says these resources have both been popular. The Portal is also discussing creating a podcast, which will surely be a hit.<\/span><\/p>\n
