{"id":18103,"date":"2023-05-10T11:10:39","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T15:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/?post_type=nouvelles&#038;p=18103"},"modified":"2023-05-10T11:10:39","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T15:10:39","slug":"acufcs-bursary-program-is-now-open","status":"publish","type":"nouvelles","link":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/news\/acufcs-bursary-program-is-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"ACUFC\u2019s bursary program is now open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ACUFC bursary program is now accepting applications!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Administered by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/acufc.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Association des coll\u00e8ges et universit\u00e9s de la francophonie canadienne<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (ACUFC), these <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/acufc.ca\/fslbursaries\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$3,000 bursaries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> encourage English-speaking students attending university to pursue their post-secondary studies in French, their second official language.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The bursaries are part of the Government of Canada\u2019s strategy to increase the national bilingualism rate and increase the demographic weight of Francophones in Canada. They have been awarded yearly between 2020 and 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2018 the ACUFC commissioned a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/acufc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/02.Infographie-FR-EN_Etude-Conference-Board_Bilinguisme_2018.11.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that shows that bilingual Canadians earned more than their unilingual Anglophone counterparts. Bilingual Canadians are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dkavHEJAZLQ&amp;t=1s\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">also well-placed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to enjoy the rich variety of the Francophonie, in Canada and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who wish to apply must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Intend to pursue full-time studies in a college or undergraduate university program in Canada, to take at least 50% of their courses and participate in related activities in French;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">speak English as their first language;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Study full time in a Canadian institution during the current year;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have completed their secondary school studies in an English-language institution and graduated from this institution;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be enrolled in the first year of a postsecondary study program in French;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be at least 17 years old on the first day of class;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge of French to be able to study in that language;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students can apply to any of these <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/acufc.ca\/formations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">26 participating colleges and universities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Image: ACUFC Facebook page<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catherine Fisher, blogger<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":18106,"parent":0,"template":"","categorie-de-nouvelle":[59],"class_list":["post-18103","nouvelles","type-nouvelles","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categorie-de-nouvelle-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nouvelles\/18103","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nouvelles"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/nouvelles"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/18106"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18103"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"categorie-de-nouvelle","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categorie-de-nouvelle?post=18103"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
