{"id":6267,"date":"2022-01-17T15:27:24","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T20:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/?post_type=nouvelles&#038;p=6267"},"modified":"2022-01-19T10:01:18","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T15:01:18","slug":"atiku-a-great-resource-about-the-north-and-the-arctic","status":"publish","type":"nouvelles","link":"https:\/\/rvf.ca\/en\/news\/atiku-a-great-resource-about-the-north-and-the-arctic\/","title":{"rendered":"Atiku: a great resource about the North and the Arctic\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week my colleague Vanessa drew my attention to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inq.ulaval.ca\/en\/tools\/atiku\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atik<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> portal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and I spent an enjoyable afternoon looking through it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atik<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a multidisciplinary international resource for researchers and students, members of northern Indigenous communities, public and private sector stakeholders, and Web users who want to learn about Northern and Arctic issues, Hosted on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inq.ulaval.ca\/en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institut nordique du Qu\u00e9bec<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> website, you can access it in either English or French.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what does the word Atik<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mean? In Innu, Atik<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Atikw in Naskapi and Cree) means \u201ccaribou\u201d, an animal that plays a central role in Indigenous cultures in many northern communities. The project\u2019s logo is a stylized caribou on a blue background.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atik<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was created as a collaboration between l\u2019Institut nordique du Qu\u00e9bec (INQ) and the libraries of Concordia University, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institut national de la recherche scientifique<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (INRS), McGill University, Universit\u00e9 Laval, Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQ\u00c0M), as well as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.banq.qc.ca\/accueil\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BAnQ).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resources are grouped into three thematic collections; Studying The North, First Peoples of the North, and General Public.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studying the North<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great place to find general histories, research guides, databases, and books on racism, colonialism, indigeneity, and many other topics. In some cases, it offers a link to a PDF of the resource, in other cases, it directs users to a library where it can be found.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The First Peoples of the North<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> collection was developed for Indigenous communities\u200b and students and researchers in Indigenous Studies. Here one can find books, statistical collections, language resources, films, visual arts, and photo collections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">General Public<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> collection includes general interest resources about the North and the Arctic, including Indigenous literature, travelogues, climate change resources, encyclopaedias, atlases, essays, maps, and films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What an amazing resource!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Catherine Fisher, blogger<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Image:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Blizzard in the Antarctic, U.S. Antarctic Service, 953111.
