Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, \u00c9tienne Fletcher stands out on the Franco-Canadian music scene as one of the most influential artists of his generation. From the very beginning, \u00c9tienne has touted his bilingual roots and has never been afraid to cover ground.<\/p>\n

This time, he\u2019ll be covering ground as co-spokesperson for Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie: He\u2019ll be sharing his music, giving workshops and meeting people across the country in February and March 2027!<\/p>\n

But the truth is that we\u2019re all creative. Creativity is a way of thinking and seeing the world. Like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Workshop\u00a01: Songwriting<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students will explore various ideas, themes and emotions before writing a short verse, chorus or set of lyrics. \u00c9tienne will help the group develop their ideas, structure their lyrics and find a rhythm for their lyrics.<\/p>\n

At the end of the workshop, the students will have a chance to share their work: They can read or present their lyrics in a welcoming environment, without the pressure of having to perform.<\/p>\n

Workshop\u00a02: Musical composition<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00c9tienne and his musicians will help students transform lyrics into song, using melodies, rhythms and musical arrangements. Together, they\u2019ll choose a vibe or musical genre (folk, rock, pop, blues, etc.) and compose a short piece of music.<\/p>\n

*Required preparation: <\/strong>The lyrics must be prepared before the workshop.<\/p>\n

Workshop\u00a03: Complete workshop \u2013 songwriting and musical composition<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students will explore themes and ideas, write a short set of lyrics and then compose a piece of music with \u00c9tienne and his musicians. Students will work in small groups or individually to create a short musical work to present at the end of the workshop.<\/p>\n

The workshop also includes discussions on the career of a musical artist, the creative process and Francophone culture.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Description:<\/strong> In March 2027, \u00c9tienne Fletcher will travel across the country, giving a performance that\u2019s philosophical, highly nuanced and full of imagery!<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00c9tienne\u2019s last indie folk album, which was released in March 2025, tells the story of a now extinct Hawaiian bird. The last Kauai O\u2019o spent several years calling and waiting for a reply, not realizing it was the only one of its species left.<\/p>\n

Given that \u00c9tienne is part of a Francophone minority community in Saskatchewan, this bird\u2019s plight is a metaphor not only for the situation in which artists find themselves in this apocalyptic era but also for the existential challenges faced by linguistic and cultural minorities. In Kauai O\u2019o, he broaches the pressing matter of living in harmony and finding our shared humanity in an era where division is increasingly common.<\/p>\n

This Fransaskois singer-songwriter invites us to get to know our neighbours and try to build longer tables instead of higher fences. He also suggests that we have more to learn from poets than politicians.<\/p>\n
