Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, Étienne Fletcher stands out on the Franco-Canadian music scene as one of the most influential artists of his generation. From the very beginning, Étienne has touted his bilingual roots and has never been afraid to cover ground.
This time, he’ll be covering ground as co-spokesperson for Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie: He’ll be sharing his music, giving workshops and meeting people across the country in February and March 2027!

Presentation: Create, express yourself, belong: The power of arts and culture

I’d like to start by asking you a question. Who here thinks they’re creative? A few people usually raise their hands. Then, I ask a second question: Who thinks they’re not creative? Often, many people raise their hands.
But the truth is that we’re all creative. Creativity is a way of thinking and seeing the world. Like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. We’re going to see why our “creative muscle” is essential not only to our personal success but also to our culture and our language.
Workshops
Workshops – Étienne is offering 3 workshops for groups of up to 30 students.
Audience: Students in grades 3 to 12
Duration: 50 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the workshop
Cost: $450 – $600, depending on the workshop
Workshop 1: Songwriting
Students will explore various ideas, themes and emotions before writing a short verse, chorus or set of lyrics. Étienne will help the group develop their ideas, structure their lyrics and find a rhythm for their lyrics.
At the end of the workshop, the students will have a chance to share their work: They can read or present their lyrics in a welcoming environment, without the pressure of having to perform.
Workshop 2: Musical composition
Étienne and his musicians will help students transform lyrics into song, using melodies, rhythms and musical arrangements. Together, they’ll choose a vibe or musical genre (folk, rock, pop, blues, etc.) and compose a short piece of music.
*Required preparation: The lyrics must be prepared before the workshop.
Workshop 3: Complete workshop – songwriting and musical composition
Students will explore themes and ideas, write a short set of lyrics and then compose a piece of music with Étienne and his musicians. Students will work in small groups or individually to create a short musical work to present at the end of the workshop.
The workshop also includes discussions on the career of a musical artist, the creative process and Francophone culture.

Description: In March 2027, Étienne Fletcher will travel across the country, giving a performance that’s philosophical, highly nuanced and full of imagery!
Étienne’s last indie folk album, which was released in March 2025, tells the story of a now extinct Hawaiian bird. The last Kauai O’o spent several years calling and waiting for a reply, not realizing it was the only one of its species left.
Given that Étienne is part of a Francophone minority community in Saskatchewan, this bird’s plight is a metaphor not only for the situation in which artists find themselves in this apocalyptic era but also for the existential challenges faced by linguistic and cultural minorities. In Kauai O’o, he broaches the pressing matter of living in harmony and finding our shared humanity in an era where division is increasingly common.
This Fransaskois singer-songwriter invites us to get to know our neighbours and try to build longer tables instead of higher fences. He also suggests that we have more to learn from poets than politicians.
